Calgary Legal Guidance

Recognized as one of the longest operating pro bono programs in Canada, Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG) has successfully leveraged the volunteer contributions of the private bar, and has been used as a model for the establishment of other pro bono legal clinics in Alberta. CLG provides service to over 8,000 individuals each year with a roster of 200+ volunteers.

CLG's volunteers come from all different areas of law and levels of experience, from senior members of the Bar to articling students. No specific area of expertise is required to volunteer at CLG. For example, approximately one-third of volunteers come from large firms and practice in areas of law not seen at CLG, such as securities, oil and gas, and corporate litigation. The only requirements for volunteering are a desire to help those less fortunate and membership in the Law Society of Alberta.

Interesting in volunteering but not giving legal advice? Legal, non-practicing, and non-legal volunteers alike, can contribute in other important areas such as fundraising, public education, and organizing events.

Practice Areas: Family, Criminal, Civil, Orders of Protection, Social Benefits

How to Volunteer: Submit an online application form or call 403-234-9266
