Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA) is seeking new Board Members

Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA) is a non-profit charitable organization that promotes access to justice in Alberta by creating and promoting opportunities for lawyers and other volunteers to provide pro bono (free) legal services to people who would otherwise be unable to afford legal services.

PBLA is not a direct provider of pro bono services to the public; instead, PBLA works with the legal community to encourage pro bono service through varied volunteer opportunities to benefit low-income Albertans seeking legal assistance.

Our mission is to engage the legal community and leverage its skills and resources in pro bono services that facilitate access to justice for Albertans.

If you are passionate about access to justice and want to foster a pro bono culture in the legal profession, serving as a PBLA Board Director is a meaningful way to contribute your talents and ideas to this cause. It is not necessary to be a lawyer to serve on the PBLA Board of Directors.

Board members attend 4-5 board meetings and multiple committee meetings per year, either virtually or in person. They are expected to come prepared to actively participate in discussions. Board members are supported financially to travel for board activities.

Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to facilitate PBLA’s mission and to support innovation in the access to justice space.

PBLA is fully committed to equity and wants to ensure that diversity of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin, region, and all other fascinating characteristics that make us unique and different are reflected on our Board of Directors.

PBLA is actively recruiting for Board Directors. We are especially interested in candidates who bring experience in financial management and accounting, and candidates who reflect the full diversity of the geographic communities that we serve.

If you share our passion for access to justice and possess the skills and qualification required of a board director, please submit your resume and a brief cover letter to admin@pbla.ca.

This posting closes on November 30.
