On May 30, 2015, the third Fort McMurray Legal Advice Clinic was held at the Fort McMurray courthouse in conjunction with Law Day. Legal Advice Clinics are Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA)-sponsored events whereby volunteer lawyers provide 30 minutes of free legal advice and information to the public in an easily accessible and friendly venue. Public information sessions were also held in areas of Personal Injury, Wills and Estates, Employment, Immigration and Family Law.
At the clinic, 5 volunteer lawyers at the clinic assisted 39 clients with various types of legal issues. Thank you to the volunteer lawyers for taking time on a Saturday to provide legal assistance to the community of Fort McMurray and area.
Discussions continue to take place regarding the establishment of a sustainable pro bono initiative in the Wood Buffalo Region.
