Pro Bono Opportunities for Alberta Lawyers

Volunteer with a Pro Bono Legal Clinic

Volunteering at a pro bono legal clinic is a great way to get involved with your community and help those in need of legal guidance and advice.

Volunteer with a Court-Based Program

PBLA operates the following programs in Edmonton and Calgary that assist self-represented litigants and provide a unique volunteer opportunity for lawyers, articling students and law students. Email for more information on volunteering.

Volunteer with a Pro Bono Project or Through a Law Firm Partnership

PBLA has brokered several partnerships between law firms and not for profit organizations as well as created innovative volunteer opportunities through special projects. Visit our Projects and Partnerships Page for more information on some of these projects.

Other Paths to Pro Bono

There are many other ways lawyers can volunteer their time and expertise in a pro bono legal capacity:

Provincial Pop-Up Legal Clinics: these clinics have been held around Alberta in several locations including Medicine Hat, Brooks, Crowsnest Pass, Lethbridge, Calgary, Fort McMurray, Edmonton and Lloydminster.
Remote Legal Services Delivery:  Innovation bridges the accessibility gap between lawyers and individuals living in remote communities in Alberta. Combining elements of a traditional pro bono legal clinic with web conferencing technology allows lawyers to meet with clients virtually to provide legal advice and referrals. Find out how you can provide assistance to an individual living with low income, and not being able to access legal services.
